Leo Treggi said he first became interested in aviation when he wanted to become a pilot. The thought of flying a plane overseas seems really interesting, so he went out and got his licenses.
After landing a job with a charter company to help build up his hours while also working operations for an airline at an airport, Treggi realized he liked the airport environment even more than just flying.
“There’s no day alike. Every day is a new day,” he said. “I like the fact that there’s always something new that keeps you interested in the job so it’s not boring.”
Treggi is the airport manger-real estate/general aviation at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and also adjunct faculty at Polk State College.
Treggi recently served as airport director for Winter Haven Municipal Airport (GIF) for about three years. During his tenure, the airport saw $12 million in projects commence, including the coordination of 15 corporate hangars to increase space.
GIF also saw projects to light the airport’s north apron, the addition of a new entrance road, a new fuel farm and the creation of two new taxiways while Treggi was at the helm.
Treggi played a role in seeing the Seaplane Pilots Association opt to build their world headquarters at GIF with his commitment to the aviation community. The airport is home to the Jack Brown Seaplane Base, which trains about 50 percent of all seaplane pilots.
He branded the airport as the seaplane capitol, along with a new logo to accompany the facility.
