The Right Equipment

Aug. 21, 2012
One of the best pieces of equipment is free.

This issue is our annual 2012-2013 Ground Support Worldwide Directory, which includes 26 pages of GSE manufacturers and service providers, plus a cross index that runs the alphabet from “Baggage & Cargo Handling” to “Vehicle Lifts.”

While there’s more than 300 listings included in this issue, one of the best pieces of equipment is the magazine itself. We recently polled a sample of our Ground Support Worldwide readers for their thoughts on various issues affecting the industry.

In the answer to the question, “Which of the following publications do you feel helps you most in your ground support responsibilities,” Ground Support Worldwide beat out the next nearest magazine by almost a 3-1 margin. Ground Support Worldwide also won an even more lopsided match over its next nearest competitor when asked “If all of these magazines arrived on the same day, which one would you read first?” Our magazine was the go-to publication with 63 percent of the vote, follow by Ground Handling International (15 percent); Airports International (11 percent); and Ramp Equipment News (8 percent).

But enough about us. What about you?

  • Almost a third of our respondents identified themselves as an owner, president or CEO; almost 80 percent are either in the executive ranks or are a supervisor or manager.
  • Sixty-four percent are somewhere between the ages of 41 and 60, with more than 36 percent 61 or older.
  • Three-quarters own a tablet or smart phone or both. While it might not be 100 percent to draw this statistical correlation, it’s possible that half of the 25 percent who don’t own either devices, might own at least one over the next six months.
  • Finally, most have either graduated from a technical school or have a bachelor’s degree. Only 15 percent have a master’s degree.

So park this piece of equipment close by. And if someone borrows it, log on to www.avitionpros.com/directory for even more information to make your next purchasing decisions.
