Last week nearly 30 teams of aircraft maintenance technicians and students from around the world competed at the Aerospace Maintenance Competition held in Las Vegas in conjunction with AviationPros LIVE. Snap-on presented Team Boeing with the second annual William O’Brien Award for Excellence in Aircraft Maintenance for having the highest overall score. This trophy will now travel to Seattle and proudly be displayed at one of the Boeing facilities for the next year. Nearly 30 teams tested their skills in 14 different maintenance tasks competing for numerous awards and prizes.
What I found most impressive were the student teams. These aspiring aircraft maintenance professionals performed at the top of their game. You could easily see their concentration studying the individual task’s maintenance instructions, carefully handling the necessary tools, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. These students got a real world sense for not only working under pressure, but clearly understanding the task at hand and doing the job right the first time.
