FLYHT Receives Key European Certification for Installation of Its AFIRS™ 228 on Hawker Beechcraft "987 Series" Aircraft

Sept. 5, 2012
This is the company's first European STC for the AFIRS 228.

Calgary, Alberta - September 5, 2012 (TSX-V: FLY) - FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd. has received an activation Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its Automated Flight Information Reporting System (AFIRS) 228 on Hawker Beechcraft “987 series” aircraft: 750/800XP/850XP/900XP variants, from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This is the company’s first European STC for the AFIRS 228.

On March 27, 2012, FLYHT announced its contract with NetJets Europe, to which this STC applies. Since then, the company has installed the AFIRS 228 provisions (kits that include the tray, wiring and antenna covered by a Provisions-Only STC) on ten of the customer’s contracted Hawker fleet and delivered 13 of the 30 contracted kits. The STC allows for the immediate activation of the AFIRS technology and enables its full functionality on the installed aircraft.

“This is an exciting milestone for FLYHT, as it has taken us two and a half years to reach this point,” said president and CEO, Bill Tempany.

“The attributes and benefits of our technology, in combination with rigorous testing undertaken by NetJets Europe, positions the AFIRS 228 as a best-in-class answer to solving multiple real-time reporting issues facing aircraft operators around the world.”

An STC allows approval to modify an aircraft’s design while retaining airworthiness certification and is necessary to permit retrofit installation of aeronautical products such as AFIRS. The company has AFIRS 220 STCs for 30 aircraft types and has AFIRS 228 activation STCs on a growing list of airframes such as the CRJ 900, Hawker Beechcraft “987 series” and provisions-only STCs for the Boeing 777 and ATR-42 and -72. The company is developing STCs for numerous other aircraft types.
