Homebuilt, Experimental Aircraft Get Low-Cost Max-Viz Enhanced Vision System from Astronics
EAST AURORA, N.Y., September 8, 2015- Astronics Corporation's newest Enhanced Vision System, designated Max-Viz X1, is priced at $6,000 specifically for experimental and homebuilt aircraft, which often operate from unimproved airstrips with wildlife and other obstacles.
"The uncertified Max-Viz X1 is a lightweight, low-cost solution for the kit and homebuilt experimental aircraft operator," said Astronics Max-Viz Executive Vice President Elliott Troutman. "The system complements synthetic vision systems (SVS) and allows pilots to see temporary obstructions, such as wildlife and construction barriers, which are not in the SVS database."
He added, "Max-Viz X1 enhances safety for the experimental pilot community by enabling pilots to see up to ten times further than unaided human vision in visibility-obscured conditions, such as smoke, haze and light fog, day or night."
ABOUT ASTRONICS MAX-VIZ X1
Max-Viz X1 has a 320x240 pixel resolution and is compliant with RTCA/DO160G environmental qualification test standards. It incorporates advanced safety technology developed for much higher performance aircraft at an affordable price.
Max-Viz X1 is a single line-replaceable unit built into an aerodynamically shaped housing for easy installation. At 1.2 lbs., the system is lightweight, solid state and low power. The un-cooled infrared detector outputs a composite RS-170 video signal, presentable on any analog video-capable aircraft display.
The system also features integral window heaters to maintain operation under conditions from -55 to +70 degrees Celsius and automatic pixel recalibration to keep the picture sharp. It is manufactured to AS9100 standards.
ABOUT ASTRONICS MAX-VIZ ENHANCED VISION SYSTEMS
Astronics Max-Viz Enhanced Vision Systems are designed for turbine and piston, fixed and rotary wing aircraft. The systems use infrared sensors, signal processing, and advanced cockpit displays to show terrain, runways, taxiways, aircraft and obstacles in poor visibility conditions, including light fog, haze, smoke, brown/whiteout, light precipitation and darkness all within a package that is small, reliable and affordable.
The Astronics Max-Viz X1 Enhanced Vision System is manufactured to the same high standards used on other Max-Viz EVS systems supplied to AgustaWestland, Textron (Bell Helicopter, Beechcraft, Cessna), Boeing, Bombardier, CASA, Canadair, Cirrus, Dassault, Eurocopter, Gulfstream, Learjet, Pilatus, Piper, Robinson Helicopter and Sikorsky Aircraft.
