Safety Cable System Increases Productivity Reduces FOD Risk During MRO Operations

May 1, 2016
Bergen Cable Technology, LLC (Booth 800) will be displaying its safety cable system for the first time at this year’s NBAA-MMC in Kansas City, MO.

Fairfield, NJ, USA, April 29, 2016. The Bergen safety cable system replaces what used to be a time consuming and cumbersome process with a streamlined and efficient method for fastener retention. When using safety cable there is no twisting of wire involved. Technicians simply pass a single cable through the fastener holes and then tension, crimp and cut the excess cable in one swift motion using the Bergen Safety Cable Tool. Tests have shown that the use of Safety Cable results in a 50% reduction in installation time with quality superior to lock wire.

In addition to increasing productivity, the Bergen Safety Cable system also reduces the risk of FOD by decreasing the amount of waste generated during MRO operations. Since traditional lock wire is wrapped around the fastener and then twisted, it requires the technician to make several cuts in order for it to be removed. This method produces many small fragments of wire which can potentially become an FOD issue. When using Safety Cable the technician needs to make only one cut to remove the cable from the fasteners with ease. Using the Safety Cable method, only two pieces of waste are generated which also allows for greater accountability.

“We are excited to be displaying the Bergen Safety Cable System for the first time at MRO Americas,” said Peter Bartholomew, General Manager of Bergen Cable Technology, LLC. “The benefits of switching from traditional lock wire to the Bergen Safety Cable System are numerous and we look forward to communicating our message to the MRO community.”
