Ravi Singh is head of sales (BHS), North America, for Leonardo Group. He has more than 15 years of experience in the aviation sector in both military and civil segments and has undertaken taken various managerial roles within the group in international sales, business development in new markets, key accounts, strategy and integrated project teams.
Singh has extensive international experience guiding its airport customers to adopt next-generation baggage handling technologies to solve their existing problems, bottlenecks, operational and maintenance (O&M) issues and add value for various stakeholders involved.
“Maybe due to my engineering background everything about aviation amazes me,” he said. “Be it sitting on a window seat on a plane to have a helicopter view of the airport terminal or thinking about pilots flying in turbulent weather while making their calculations correctly or simply observing people and their culture at the airport coming from around the globe and the list goes on and on and on. I do this every time, as if it’s my first time ever.”
Singh’s leadership skills on the baggage handling system upgrades at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) allowed Leonard to carry out a complicated brownfield retrofit project covering the entire lifecycle.
Singh has established key contacts with important stakeholders at the TSA, airports, airlines, airport planners, construction companies and consultants to make them aware of the technological innovations in the baggage handling industry.
With active feedback/contributions from U.S. stakeholders, Singh has defined an effective market penetration strategy and value proposition with a larger goal of reforming the U.S. baggage industry, which he says has been stagnant in the last couple of decades.
Singh is involved with planning and implementing baggage handling system events. He includes panelists and participants outside or adjacent to the core group within the baggage handling system industry to further bring a different perspective to the topic of discussion. By putting himself in the mindset of the audience, and attracting new participants to the discussion, Singh contributes to the likelihood of a successful event.
