Since joining McGhee Tyson Airport, Darras has leveraged her passion for aviation to elevate the airport’s public engagement and streamline complex messaging. She is renowned for her ability to transform intricate information into accessible, engaging communication, fostering strong connections between the airport, the public, and other stakeholders. Her enthusiasm is palpable, whether she’s leading an innovative project, overseeing a public relations initiative, or guiding her team toward collaborative solutions.

“I strive to bring a positive and innovative perspective to both the MKAA and aviation industry,” she said. “Through managing employee events and coordinating internal communications, my goal is to ensure our team feels valued, informed, and heard. In turn, fostering this supportive culture creates a ripple effect that benefits not only our employees but also enhances the experience for our passengers.”

A seasoned professional, Darras holds an MBA from the University of Memphis and her Certified Member accreditation from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). She shares her expertise as an instructor in social media at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, preparing the next generation of aviation leaders. Her contributions have garnered international recognition, including awards for her innovative communication efforts, such as co-creating one of the first airport podcasts in the United States. This initiative set a new standard in aviation communication, emphasizing Darras’s role as a thought leader.

Beyond her professional achievements, Darras demonstrates a commitment to community service as Chair of United Way of Blount County’s Board of Directors.

Darras was able to recruit more than 1,100 community volunteers and engage more than 35 nonprofit organizations, resulting in local nonprofits raising more than $150,000 in donations during two air shows hosted by the airport. These events not only sparked community interest in aviation but also provided significant financial support for the nonprofits. In addition, MKAA cultivated airport ambassadors who continue to support and engage the authority.
