Age 37

Gilroy Dane Newball started his aircraft mechanic training in 2017, while driving for two rideshare companies, and while tutoring elementary school children in English and math.

“The intent behind that was a change of career and obtaining a livable skill,” said Newball.

In 2022, he started Newball Aerospace LLC and was focused on fulfilling contracts with a major airline.

During this time, Newball made sure that crews he worked with were equipped with enhanced skills and guided them toward certification. He also started a training program for unlicensed aircraft support mechanics. The program systematically organized their experiences to align with the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airman Certification Standards for obtaining the Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) Mechanic Certification. This process has led to one mechanic in his crews recently obtaining his A&P.

Today the focus of Newball Aerospace LLC is providing maintenance support for general aviation aircraft but also training the next generation of aircraft maintenance technicians by providing tutoring and real-world experiences.

At the same time, the business owner himself is working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, with graduate school to begin shortly thereafter.

He also volunteers with the Air Care Alliance, which provides free flights to those in need, and with a charity providing disaster relief and educational support using aircraft.

It is volunteer work that Newball says he finds most gratifying.

Later this year, he is on track to earn his FAA Inspection Authorization. After that goal is reached, he and his wife, Nicole, both intend to pursue pilot training to further support their charity work.
