2024 AMT Top 40 Under 40: Geoffrey Green

Aug. 20, 2024

When pilots show up to preflight a plane before a trip, Geoffrey Green wants them to be confident that they are getting the best maintained plane that they can possibly get.

“I love hearing passengers remark on how good the plane looks, and how clean my hangar is,” Green said. In fact, he said delivering a safe aircraft to the flight crew and world class passenger experience from the parking lot to the destination is his greatest reward.

To succeed in the industry, Green, a US Air Force avionics technician from 2005 to 2010, says the most important qualities are integrity and grit.

“This career path is not easy,” he said. “You will move your family, work with different teams and personalities. You will be performing precision work in tight spaces that may not be looked in again for years. We have to do the right thing all the time and we have to do hard things all the time.”

The Procter & Gamble Global Flight Operations Employee of the Year in 2020, Green was the first maintenance employee to serve as the department's safety officer.

“Roles that had typically been held by pilots are increasingly well suited to be held by the people who started on the floor versus the cockpit,” said Green, who continues to help pave the way for technicians to be top considerations for operational management positions.

Before working for P&G, he served as a lead technician for Cummins’ corporate flight operation.

Green is a member of the NBAA Maintenance Committee Workforce Development subcommittee and an advocate for the Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance.
