Cape Air Plane Crashed in Provincetown as It was Landing. No Fatalities are Reported.
Sep. 10—PROVINCETOWN — Seven people were taken to the hospital after a Cape Air passenger plane crashed Thursday afternoon at Provincetown Municipal Airport.
The six passengers and a pilot on board Flight 2072 were transferred by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital, according to Cape Air, after the flight went off the runway at about 3:30 p.m.
Weather "caused an issue with the landing, causing it to crash," said Provincetown Town Manager Alex Morse in a Facebook post at about 4 p.m. after he talked with Police Chief James Golden. Morse confirmed in his post that there were no fatalities.
Cape Cod had at-times heavy rainfall for most of Thursday.
Emergency crews responded to the airport, including from Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet and Truro, according to the Provincetown Fire Department dispatcher.
Cape Air confirmed that Flight 2072, a twin-engine Cessna 402, was traveling from Logan International Airport in Boston to Provincetown when the "plane exited the runway" and went into the woods. No further information was made available.
Those who believe they may have loved ones on board Flight 2072 should call Empathia Family Assistance Number 888-253-4115 or 209-208-6717, Cape Air wrote in its incident confirmation late Thursday afternoon.
"We ask that this number not be used for other inquiries," Cape Air said in the statement. "Please help us keep the line available for those who truly need it."
A passenger inquiry form is available through Empathia at https://dms.neas.com/forms/passenger_inquiry_form.php
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, the FAA said in an email Thursday. The National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of the investigation and all updates, the statement said.
Due to an editing error, in the original version of this story a tweet about the crash was incorrectly attributed to Provincetown Town Manager Alex Morse. The tweet was from reporter Mike Saccone, who said he spoke with Morse. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
