Vintage Aircraft Takes to the Skies at Cleveland National Air Show

Aug. 1, 2022

Jul. 30—The Cleveland National Air Show presented by Discount Drug Mart takes place Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 3-5, at Burke Lakefront Airport and features vintage aircraft including a Vietnam MiG-17F and WW II B-25, according to a news release.

The aircraft are fully functioning time machines which will immerse Air Show spectators into the sights and sounds of eras gone by, the release said.

Randy Ball will pilot the first Cleveland appearance of the MiG-17F.

Made famous by the Vietnam War, the MiG-17F was the primary enemy aircraft engaged in the skies over Vietnam and one of the first production jet fighters in the world with an afterburner, the release said.

Ball's MiG-17F is one of only a handful of vintage jets flying the North American air show circuit.

It has an authentic paint job and has been filmed on several occasions for both the Discovery and History channels.

Air Show fans will take a sentimental journey when a B-25D Mitchell Bomber "Rosie's Reply" takes to the skies, the release said.

The B-25 has a distinctive shape with a low rumbling engine and is a living, flying embodiment of the Greatest Generation's winning spirit.

The B-25 Mitchell was one of the most significant aircraft in World War II.

Ground tours will provide Air Show attendees with a close-up look at this authentic aircraft.

Headlining this year's show are the U.S. Navy Blue Angels showcasing their new F/A-18 Super Hornets for the first time in Cleveland.

They will be joined by the U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon and more.

Inside the gates, spectators can witness the Blue Angels choreographed "walk down" preflight routine and feel the heat from ground shaking pyrotechnics with a Wall of Fire, the release said.

Fans can tour unique aircraft, help pack a parachute, meet a pilot and explore aviation first hand, according to the release.

General admission tickets are $30 for adults, but $35 after Aug. 19; $20 for children ages 6-11 and free for children age 5 and younger.

Popular seating options include Reserved Box Seats, Sponsor Boxes, Barnstormer Club and Flight Deck Loge offer a variety of amenities.

Tickets are available only in advance, online at www.clevelandairshow.com.

There will be no gate sales.

The Air Show is a financially self-sufficient not-for-profit organization and ticket sales directly support event production costs for this Cleveland tradition.
