German Climate Activists Spray-Paint Private Jets at Berlin Airport
Berlin — German climate activists sprayed orange paint onto private jets parked at a terminal of Berlin's BER airport on Friday, the Last Generation activist group said.
The airport said air traffic had not been affected by the protest, which took place at around midday.
According to Last Generation, the activists cut through the fence surrounding the airport to the south-east of Berlin before cycling to the general aviation terminal from where private and business jets take off.
The protest was broadcast live on Twitter.
"By our paint action, private jets were turned from a symbol for excessive luxury into a warning light against reckless destruction of the climate, which is perpetrated by a small minority of the super-rich at the expense of the majority," Last Generation said.
A spokeswoman for the federal police tasked with security at the airport said they had been informed of the protest shortly after noon.
