Riverside, CA – The Thomas Wathen Center and Flabob Airport will host a one-day Veteran’s Day celebration on Saturday, November 10th. Activities will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day. At noon there will be a special ceremony honoring all branches of military service. The event will feature speeches, honor guards and music. That is traditionally followed by a parade with veterans featured as guests.
During the day there will be fly-overs by a wide variety of warbirds, antique aircraft, homebuilts and modern general aviation aircraft. Dozens of display aircraft are expected to fly in for the day and will be on static display. There will also be a display of antique and classic automobiles. Airplane rides will be sold and there will be a number of vendors on the field selling souvenirs and food.
As in years past, there will be a stage with stand up comedians, a number of musical groups and orchestras. The army will be setting up special displays for the event. “Last year, we had about 5,000 people and pilots participating,” said Jon Goldenbaum, who organizes the celebration. “It’s fun for everyone and gives us all an opportunity to show our appreciation for those protect this nation. It’s an ideal way for an airport to reach out to the community.”
Admission for the day’s activities and parking are both free. “Last year a group of generous sponsors provided over $25,000 to help offset the costs of the event,” said William E. Sawin, President and CEO. “This year we are hoping that support will double.” For further information contact Kathy Rohm at 951.683.2309 or write [email protected].
