ARGUS Releases May Business Aircraft Activity

ARGUS TRAQPak data is serial-number specific aircraft arrival and departure information on all IFR flights in the US (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada. The tables below reflect business aircraft activity data for May 1-31, 2015 vs. April 1-30, 2015 and May 1-31, 2015 vs. May 1-31, 2014 respectively. May business aviation flight activity posted an increase from April to finish the month up 0.7%. Results by operational category were mixed, with Part 135 & Part 91 activity posting increases of 0.9% & 0.8% respectively. The Fractional market posted a monthly decline of 0.6%. Looking at the aircraft categories, with the exception of turboprops, which posted an increase of 2.8%, all three jet categories were down, for the 2nd month in row, with large cabin posting a decline of 0.3%, followed by mid-size cabin, down 0.4% and small cabin, down 0.3%. The Fractional & Part 135 turboprop markets recorded the largest monthly gains for an individual segment, up 5.0% respectively.

Reviewing year over year flight activity (May 2015 vs. May 2014); TRAQPak data indicates that May 2015 posted an increase of 1.1%. The results by operational category continue to be strong for the Part 91 & Part 135 markets, up 1.0% & 3.2% in that order. The Fractional market finished the period down 3.5%. Flight activity by aircraft category was positive for most categories, with large cabin aircraft posting the largest gains, up 4.7% from May 2014. The small cabin & turboprop markets posted gains of 1.0% & 1.7% respectively; flight activity for Wheels Up accounted for 90% of the increase in turboprop flight activity over last May. The mid-size cabin market was off 1.1% from last year. The largest year over year gain for an individual segment occurred in the small cabin Fractional market, which saw an increase of 9.4%.

Next Month’s Forecast
Looking ahead to next month…TRAQPak analysts estimate there will be a 1.9% increase in overall flight activity year over year for June 2015.
