RS&H Aviation Practice Director and Senior Vice President Don Andrews is retiring after 20 years with the architecture, engineering and consulting firm.
Andrews, 64, became the aviation leader at RS&H in 2014 and helped grow the practice both in terms of associates and project revenue. His last day with RS&H is March 31.
“We are incredibly thankful for Don’s contributions during his 20 years with RS&H,” said RS&H Executive Vice President Lisa Robert. “His steadfast commitment to the betterment of the aviation industry, our associates, and ways to advance technology within RS&H are hallmarks of his tenure with us.”
Andrews joined RS&H in 2000 when the firm had about 75 aviation associates on staff. That number had doubled by the time he moved into the practice director position in 2014. Today, the RS&H Aviation Practice has 250 associates, and revenues doubled over the last six years.
“We’ve had a really successful run,” Andrews said. “It was very rewarding and gratifying to be at the helm as we grew, and a privilege to work with all the associates who’ve done such a great job for our clients.”
Andrews earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University in 1978. His entire 40-plus year career has been in the aviation industry. Prior to joining RS&H, he worked at Landrum and Brown, Aviation Planning Associates (AvPlan), and the Houston Airport System.
He has been actively involved in several trade associations over the years including former positions as Chair of the Environmental Committee for ACI-North America, Associates Board Member for ACI-North America, and World Business Partners Board Member for ACI World.
RS&H Aviation Vice President Rodney Bishop Jr. will take over the practice director role as Andrews retires. Bishop has 30 years – the last 13 of them at RS&H – of professional aviation design, planning, construction management, and project management experience.
“I have every confidence that Rodney is going to do a great job,” Andrews said. “He’s demonstrated many great skillsets and accomplishments in the time he’s been with RS&H. He will successfully lead the Aviation Practice to new heights.”
As for Andrews, he is looking forward to spending more time on the tennis and pickleball courts, playing golf, riding his Harley, and enjoying life with family and friends. He and wife Liz are looking forward to traveling and getting the opportunity to enjoy airports again.
“Airports are vital community assets,” Andrews said. “I’ve enjoyed helping our clients grow and improve their facilities. There is a great group of people at RS&H who share a passion for aviation. It’s been an honor to work with them to accomplish the things we‘ve done together.”
