Boeing Retains Lead in New Orders at Farnborough Airshow

US aircraft manufacturer Boeing kept its nose ahead of European rival Airbus in the race for new orders on the second day of the Farnborough International Airshow outside of London.

London — US aircraft manufacturer Boeing kept its nose ahead of European rival Airbus in the race for new orders on the second day of the Farnborough International Airshow outside of London.

Private equity firm 777 Partners was buying 30 more Boeing 737 MAX medium-haul planes, the manufacturer said on Tuesday. The aircraft will be a special 737-8-200 version with more seats and additional doors, which Boeing developed for low-cost carriers such as Ryanair. There is also a preliminary contract with 777 Partners for 36 more aircraft.

Airbus meanwhile reported an order from US airline Delta for 12 A220-300 aircraft, the longer version of the smallest Airbus model A220.On Monday, Delta said it was ordering 100 of Boeing's 737-10 jets, with options for an additional 30 planes from the company.

The Farnborough trade show, which runs through the week, is staged every two years and has become a venue for Boeing and Airbus to face off for new orders.
