Paris — Airbus said on Tuesday it had a slow start to the new year after delivering 20 commercial aircraft to its customers in January, 10 fewer than in the same month last year.

In December, Airbus had delivered 98 aircraft in a final spurt despite strained supply chains.

The world's largest aircraft manufacturer brought in orders for 37 commercial jets last month, but also had to accept an order cancellation.

Overall, Airbus delivered a total of 661 aircraft last year, falling short of its original target of 700.

Group chief executive Guillaume Faury ditched the goal in early December due to bottlenecks at key suppliers that rendered it out of reach.

Airbus remained far ahead of its US competitor Boeing in 2022, which only managed to deliver 480 aircraft due to problems with several aircraft types.

Faury plans to announce how many aircraft deliveries Airbus is targeting for the current year when the group presents its 2022 financial statements on February 16.
