Berlin — German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said he is against the delivery of MiG-29 fighter jets from NATO countries to Ukraine.
At a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Berlin on Wednesday, he talked about supporting the delivery of financial aid, humanitarian assistance and individual weapons systems.
"Apart from that, however, it is about considering very carefully what we do in concrete terms. And that certainly does not include fighter jets," Scholz said.
Poland has proposed sending some of its MiG-29 jets indirectly to Ukraine, via a US base in Germany.
Trudeau said his country will continue to send equipment and weapons and would work alongside its partners to do so. "We want to de-escalate the conflict, we want to see an end to this conflict," he said.
