Raytheon Technologies, one of the world’s largest aerospace and defense conglomerates, is moving from its longtime home of Waltham to Arlington, Virginia, the company announced today.
“The company will maintain its strong U.S. presence which includes 600 facilities across 44 states and territories. Each of the company’s four business units currently have operations in Virginia,” the company wrote in its announcement. “The new global headquarters office will be in Arlington’s Rosslyn neighborhood alongside the Raytheon Intelligence & Space business.”
The company cited the new location, immediately next to Washington, D.C., “as a convenient travel hub for the company’s global customers and employees.” It says the move “increases agility in supporting U.S. government and commercial aerospace customers.”
The currently Waltham-based company employs more than 196,000 employees across its various holdings —Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon Intelligence & Space, Raytheon Missiles & Defense — according to its website.
The current company is the result of a 2020 merger between the Raytheon Company and the United Technologies Corporation aerospace business.
“Our 2021 performance demonstrated the strength, balance and resiliency of our portfolio, the breadth of our advanced technologies, the talents and dedication of our workforce, and our commitment to changing the world for the better,” said Gregory J. Hayes, the chairman and chief executive officer in the company’s 2022 proxy statement on its performance for 2021, its first full year as the merged company.
The company said that it “has not accepted or sought any financial incentives from any state or municipality to support the establishment of a global headquarters office in Virginia.”
This is a developing story.
