AMETEK Multi-Engine Data Concentrator (MEDC) Selected by L3 Aerospace Systems for RC-135 Retrofit Program
HARLEYSVILLE, PA – L3 Aerospace Systems recently selected the Multi-Engine Data Concentrator (MEDC) from AMETEK PDS for the RC-135 aircraft upgrade program. L3 Aerospace Systems delivers integrated solutions for the global intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) market and provides modernization, upgrade, sustainment, and maintenance and logistics support for a variety of aircraft.
The RC-135 retrofit program calls for upgrading legacy RC-135 aircraft with proven, costeffective avionics and systems. L3 selected the AMETEK MEDC as an off-the-shelf design that is certified and currently flying on the KC-135 aircraft. The RC-135’s upgraded avionics systems addresses issues related to legacy equipment and diminishing manufacturing / support sources. It also provides for lower life-cycle costs.
The AMETEK MEDC is a state-of-the-art data acquisition system for analog or digital processing applications, in which large amounts of data need to be processed or consolidated. The system can be configured as a single- or dual-channel unit.
AMETEK PDS is uniquely positioned to provide the most-risk-free solutions for aircraft interfaces, as a legacy supplier for many of the indicators already in older cockpits, tracing its history back to the oil pressure gauge aboard Charles Lindbergh’s famed Spirit of St. Louis. Many older cockpits utilize signals that are simply not taught in school, and the subtleties of interfacing with them are not known to most engineers. AMETEK’s knowledge and 90 years of aircraft instrument experience allow its designs to work right the first time, greatly reducing program costs.
