TAP Maintenance & Engineering Brazil Receives 777 Landing Gear Contract from Boeing
Rio de Janeiro, January 30, 2012 – As Latin America’s largest MRO, in size and capability, TAP Maintenance & Engineering Brazil (TAP M&E Brazil) is expanding its already extensive list of capabilities though a 777 landing gear overhaul service contract the company was recently awarded by Boeing.
The contract includes inspection, repair, and overhaul of the landing gear axles of the Boeing 777, through a Service Bulletin released by Boeing, which will be incorporated by the airlines that fly this aircraft.
TAP M&E Brazil took part in an international bidding contest with other companies and, after a detailed audit process, it was awarded the contract by Boeing.
“There’s a lot to be done. TAP M&E Brazil is ready to meet the needs of The Boeing Company where it is responsible for attracting commercial business, and we are in charge of the operational part,” said the Manager of the Company’s Landing Gear Workshop, Luiz Salomão. “We will dedicate a group of engineers and technicians specifically to this project, to ensure its success.”
TAP M&E Brazil performs maintenance services on all of the Boeing aircraft models that operate in Latin America and on thousands of their components. Last March, Boeing held an International Conference on Landing Gears in the facilities of TAP M&E Brazil, in which a number of airline companies from South America participated, all of them whom are clients of TAP M&E Brazil. On that occasion, besides new information on landing gear technology, Boeing also presented the need of incorporating the 777 landing gear Service Bulletin, which was made official a few months later.
“Now, the next step is to expand the range of services provided under this certification. With the success of this initial project, and our commitment to providing excellence to our clients, we expect to achieve this objective very quickly,” Nestor Koch, President and CEO of TAP M&E Brazil, pointed out. “The Company is the only one in Latin America and one of the few in the world to be an Authorized Service Center for the world’s three largest airplane manufacturers: Embraer Authorized Service Center, Member of the Airbus Network, and, now, a Boeing Approved Repair Center. We are very honored by the confidence that these large companies have in our services, when they choose us as an Authorized Center. We will certainly make every effort to provide total quality services, in order to be worthy of the trust placed in us.”
