CANTON, Ohio: May 15, 2012 — The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR) received the MTU Maintenance Supplier Award for MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) for outstanding performance in 2011. A division of MTU Aero Engines Holding AG, MTU Maintenance is the world’s largest independent provider of commercial engine maintenance services.
MTU recognized Timken for the company’s dedication to process development, adhering to customer requirements and continuing improvement in on-time delivery performance. Timken has repaired bearings for MTU for more than 15 years at its Los Alamitos, Calif., facility, with business from MTU increasing significantly in recent years.
Erik Paulhardt, vice president of aerospace and defense for Timken, received the supplier award at the MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg facility. “We are very honored to receive this award from MTU,” said Paulhardt. “We take a great deal of pride in continuously striving to improve our performance and expanding our repair services to meet the needs of customers.”
André Sinanian, MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg managing director and senior vice president, explained the importance of bearing repair turnaround time. “During the engine overhaul process, bearings are removed at the end of the disassembly process, and needed at the beginning of the rebuild process,” Sinanian said. “This makes receiving repaired bearings according to schedule essential to meeting our deadlines.”
Timken has been repairing aerospace bearings for more than 55 years and considers the Los Alamitos, Calif., facility as a center of expertise for bearing inspection and repair. The facility can repair more than 5,000 part numbers spanning 80 engine platforms. The Timken Company’s global aerospace organization includes bearing repair operations in Wolverhampton, England, and bearing inspection in Chengdu, China.
