July 17, 2023

Jul. 14—VIENTIANE ( Vientiane Times/ANN) — Lao Airlines and VietJet Air have signed an Aircraft Maintenance Agreement, marking a crucial milestone in the two airlines' cooperation.

The agreement was signed in Vientiane on Wednesday by the Managing Director of Lao Airlines, Mr Khamla Phommavanh, and the CEO of VietJet Air, Mr Dinh Viet Phuong. The signing was witnessed by Laos' Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr Gnampasong Meuangmany, and Minister of Counselors at the Vietnamese Embassy to Laos, Mr Phan Minh Chien. Mr Khamla said "This agreement bears testimony to our mutual trust and commitment since signing a Memorandum of Understanding in Ho Chi Minh City on May 31." "As part of the ongoing reform of Lao Airlines, we aim to maximise our infrastructure and generate more revenue. To achieve this, we want to utilise our hangar, which was built in 2012. Today, we are excited to take a step closer to this goal by signing this aircraft maintenance agreement." "The agreement authorises Lao Airlines to provide high-quality and cost-effective maintenance services to the VietJet Air fleet, using our hangar."

"I am sure this agreement will bring mutual benefits and opportunities for both airlines. In the future, the scope of cooperation will expand endlessly." Mr Dinh Viet Phuong said "The partnership agreement between VietJet and Lao Airlines today marks a new chapter in the cooperation between our two airlines in particular and our two countries in general, and I am confident that it will be mutually beneficial for both parties." VietJet is now the leading airline in Vietnam and the region, he said. Its fleet comprises about 100 modern aircraft, operating over 160 domestic and international routes to Australia, India, Kazakhstan, Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. VietJet is expanding its flight network to new destinations across the Asia-Pacific, serving the air transport needs of all passengers.

Through this agreement, VietJet will build its partnership with Lao Airlines, the national airline of Laos, to develop the aviation industry together. "With the support of Lao Airlines' maintenance team, who are known for their expertise and professionalism, VietJet can perform our fleet maintenance and repairs better to meet our sustainable development," Mr Dinh Viet Phuon said. "We believe this cooperation will be the beginning of the next cooperation in training pilots, flight attendants and technical staff, and also our commercial operations." "We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead, and we look forward to working closely with all of our partners to build a brighter future for aviation in Southeast Asia and beyond."
