Aviation Industry And Government to Share Cyber Threats In New Intelligence Center
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The aviation industry and the government announced Tuesday the creation of new platforms to share information about cyber security. The Air Domain Intelligence Integration Center and an accompanying analysis center are the latest examples of how industry and government are starting to ramp up efforts to share information related to cyber threats as the problem continues to grow.
The groups “will bring an unprecedented level of information sharing between government and industry,” said Fred Schwien, director of homeland security programs & strategy at The Boeing Company, speaking at the Kaspersky Cyber Security Summit, Tuesday, in San Francisco.
“One of the challenges that exists within the private sector that does not exist within government and military is the whole notion of information sharing,” said Tom Ridge, the first secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and the former governor of Pennsylvania, speaking at the Kaspersky conference.
The news comes after a Thursday announcement by the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission that rival businesses that share information relating to cyberattacks are not breaking antitrust laws. In February The Obama administration released voluntary cybersecurity guidelines for utilities, banks and other crucial industries, framing them as a basic step companies can take to secure their networks against hackers and other online threats.
