Oct. 12—A pilot was seriously injured in a plane crash Tuesday morning at Sterling Municipal Airport.
According to a press release issued Wednesday from the Sterling Police Department, Tuesday morning at approximately 10:59 a.m., Sterling Police and Sterling Fire Department were dispatched to a reported aircraft crash at the airport.
"The preliminary investigation indicates that shortly after takeoff the small single-seat, single-engine airplane stalled due to strong cross winds ultimately crashing," the press release states. "The plane impacted in a dirt and grass area between the runway and taxiway within the confines of the airport."
According to the press release, the airplane's final position was mostly upright and sustained extensive damage. There was no other property damage.
The pilot, an adult male from Kansas, was rendered aid on scene and transported to the Sterling Regional Medical Center due to serious injuries.
The SPD press release goes on to state that the NTSB ( National Transportation Safety Board) and FAA were notified and advised of the incident by airport authorities.
