Avion Express Opens a New Market for ACMI Operations with Partnership with Flybondi

Nov. 21, 2024

The global aviation industry increasingly recognizes the advantages of ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) leasing (also known as “wet leasing”), and Avion Express is leading the charge. The leading global ACMI operator is proud to announce its expansion into the South American market with the commencement of operations in Argentina, facilitated through a groundbreaking partnership with Flybondi.

Under this agreement, Avion Express will provide two Airbus A320 aircraft based in Buenos Aires, with operations beginning at the end of November 2024 and running until the end of March 2025.

ACMI in New Markets

ACMI leasing — a model where airlines access fully equipped aircraft with crew, maintenance, and insurance included — has revolutionized global aviation by offering airlines unmatched flexibility to scale operations. For the growing South American aviation market, Avion Express's entry introduces a proven solution to meet dynamic passenger demand efficiently, particularly during peak travel seasons. Flybondi

“We are proud and honored to be the first A320 Airbus ACMI operator in Argentina, partnering with Flybondi to enhance their operational capacity during this upcoming summer period in the southern region,” said Darius Kajokas, CEO of Avion Express. “Our presence in Argentina not only supports Flybondi’s ambitious growth but also sets an example of ACMI services in this region, showcasing its potential to unlock new opportunities for airlines.”

Addressing Seasonal Demand: A Perfect Match

Flybondi, Argentina's largest privately owned airline, strengthens its operational flexibility through this partnership, expanding its operations during the upcoming high season. This strategic partnership allows it to meet growing passenger demand in a flexible and seasonal operating model.

“This achievement is the result of months of hard work and was made possible thanks to the new regulatory provisions. We are very pleased to be collaborating with Avion Express to meet the high demand from our passengers,” said Mauricio Sana, CEO of Flybondi. “Their experience in ACMI services in the region ensures that we can provide a reliable and efficient service, reaffirming our commitment to our passengers and to the development of the airline industry in Argentina.”

This partnership highlights the seasonal adaptability of the ACMI model. As Europe enters its winter low season, South America experiences its summer peak, providing the perfect opportunity for Avion Express to deploy its fleet where demand is highest.

“ACMI becomes highly effective when markets complement each other’s seasons. In recent years, Avion Express has strategically focused on Latin America. This region begins to recognize the value and opportunities of ACMI, which has long been established in Europe. To address these needs and offer greater flexibility, we are in the process of obtaining a new air operator certificate (AOC) in Brazil, enabling us to meet the growing demand in this key market and create more opportunities for airlines not only within the region but across Latin America as a whole,” Kajokas added.

Why ACMI in Argentina is a Game-Changer

The arrival of ACMI services in Argentina introduces several key benefits: enhanced flexibility, seasonal optimization, and regional impact. Avion Express's entry into Argentina sets a new standard for operational scalability in South America, encouraging other airlines to explore ACMI as a cost-effective solution for sustainable growth:

“We are thrilled to announce this significant milestone in our journey in the Latin America region, as we partner with Flybondi to expand their fleet and capacity through wet leasing solutions. This collaboration reflects the strength of our shared commitment to meeting the demands of a growing market under a very efficient model for the airlines. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support and leadership of the team of Flybondi, the Argentinian regulatory authorities, and a dynamic aviation sector in this region that continues to thrive. Together, we are setting the stage for greater connectivity and innovation in Argentina and in the region”, said Roberto Held, Business Development Head for the Americas at Avion Express.
