Falls Church, VA – Market Analyst, LLC, a value-added distributor of market research reports and business information, announced today that the worldwide market for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs) is poised for a seven-fold growth.
According to a study added by Market Analyst, LLC to its portfolio, the market for these systems will grow from the current $7 billion to $51 billion by 2018. The study by WinterGreen Research is entitled, "Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS): Market Shares, Strategy, and Forecasts, Worldwide, 2012 to 2018."
Unmanned Aerial Systems include Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, which are remotely piloted or self-piloted aircraft that can carry cameras, sensors, communications equipment or other payloads.
The UAVs can be economically stored and transported, providing a way to automate the surveillance of large areas and to carry out military missions that strike at enemy targets.
Unmanned Aerial Systems also include unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAV) whose growth has coincided with an increase in endurance limit and mission capabilities of UAVs. Smaller than manned aircraft, they are lighter, cost-effective, and capable of performing aerial war fighter tasks remotely.
According to the study, 64 drone bases in the U.S. are being used as remote cockpits to control the robotic aircraft overseas. These drone bases include 12 bases housing the more advanced Predator and Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles. The drones have made a significant contribution to the fighting capability of operational war forces.
