Volaris Says Coronavirus Forces It to Suspend Service to Fresno, 13 Other U.S. Cities
Mexican airline Volaris says it has temporarily halted flights out of Fresno Yosemite International Airport because of the coronavirus until further notice.
In Fresno, the disruption started with Thursday night’s flight, which was canceled. Fresno is one of 14 U.S. airports that saw the disruption Thursday. The others are Sacramento, Seattle, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas, Reno, Miami, Charlotte, New York and Washington, D.C.
Volaris is continuing to serve seven U.S. destinations including three in California – Los Angeles, Oakland and San Jose. The others are Chicago O’Hare, Chicago Midway, Portland and Orlando.
Volaris said it’s offering refunds for trips canceled due to “extraordinary circumstances” equaling the amount of the base fare and additional purchased services.
The airline in September had added a third destination for Fresno travelers, flying twice-weekly to León. Volaris also had Fresno trips to Guadalara and Morelia.
Aeromexico continues to serve Fresno with direct service to Guadalajara.
In 2019, Aeromexico and Volaris accounted for about 13% (more than 131,000 passengers) of the traffic at FYI.
