American Airlines Adds Flights to Two New Mexico Destinations from DFW

Sept. 23, 2020

American Airlines will fly two new seasonal routes from DFW International Airport to Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, giving North Texans a beach escape during peak winter months.

American will fly on Saturdays to Loreto and La Paz starting Dec. 19, returning the same day.

American already flies to Cabo San Lucas on the Baja California Peninsula, but the Fort Worth-based airline is adding flights to the two other resort destinations. La Paz and Loreto are on the Gulf of California side of the peninsula.

“We look forward to the new service to LAP (La Paz) and LTO (Loreto), which will complement the existing service and provide our customers with more warm weather options during the colder winter months,” said American Airlines spokeswoman Nichelle Tait.

The new routes give American Airlines 23 destinations in Mexico, which has been a popular place for travelers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other airlines, such as United, have been bulking up on winter trips to warm-weather spots such as Florida in order to accommodate travelers that may want to go on a trip to an outdoor location this winter. Southwest recently added routes to Palm Springs, Calif., and Miami.

American’s La Paz flight will operate from Dec. 19 through April and then again from June through September. The Loreto flight will go from Dec. 19 through May, both on a Bombardier CRJ-700.

It’s the first time that American has flown to La Paz since 1980, according to Routesonline.com, and the first time ever for flights to Loreto.
