Johannesburg (dpa) - South African Airways (SAA) has suspended operations due to a lack of funding, bankruptcy administrators said on Tuesday.
The company would be inactive until talks were complete, they said, adding that, if the government failed to provide the required state funding, other options under consideration would include SAA's sale or liquidation.
SAA has long faced financial difficulties and was put under business rescue measures in November.
Administrators say 10.1 billion rand (597 million dollars) are required to get the airline up and running again.
SAA last made a profit in 2011 and has since then been relying on state financial injections and loans in order to remain operational.
