Suspended During Pandemic, DC Flights Take Off Again at Montgomery Airport

April 6, 2021

Flights from Alabama's capital to the nation's capital have resumed after being suspended at the outset of the pandemic.

American Airlines started nonstop flights from Montgomery Regional Airport to Reagan National Airport in Washington in January 2021, but stopped those flights two months later as the nation struggled to deal with the arrival of COVID-19. Montgomery airport officials said the service resumed April 4 as overall air travel numbers continue to rise here and elsewhere.

“The convenience of a day trip makes the MGM-to-DCA flight schedule a customer favorite. Passengers can leave early morning and return to Montgomery in time to put the kids to bed,” Montgomery Regional Airport Executive Director Marshall Taggart said in a release. “Our customers have consistently inquired about the return of the non-stop flight to Washington, D.C., and we are so pleased that American Airlines has restored this service.”

The Montgomery airport has been preparing for the uptick in traffic by adding more on-property rental cars, revamping its online presence and deep-cleaning the airport interior.

The airport also offers nonstop flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., and Dallas through American Airlines and Delta. You can see more at flymgm.com.
