JetBlue, Allegiant Air Relocating to Terminal 2 at San Diego Airport

Feb. 10, 2022

Allegiant Air and JetBlue Airways are moving to Terminal 2 later this month to make room for construction on the new Terminal 1 at San Diego International Airport.

The facelift to Terminal 1 started in November and it is the single largest project in the airport's history coming in at a total cost of $3.4 billion.

Starting Feb. 18, Allegiant Air will move to the east side of Terminal 2 and travelers will find the ticket counter near the American Airlines booth. The budget airline will operate from gate 33.

JetBlue will join Terminal 2 on Feb. 24 and its ticket counters will be close to Delta Air Lines. JetBlue will operate out of gate 34.

If travelers get turned around by these changes, the airport offers a free Terminal Loop Shuttle to get to the right place.

The project, which is expected to create 15,000 to 20,000 construction-related jobs, calls for replacing the 1960s-era Terminal 1 with a 30-gate state-of-the-art facility, and adding much-improved food and retail concessions. It also includes a new three-lane airport access road.

The first 19 gates in the new terminal are expected to open in mid-2025, and demolition of the old terminal would follow. The additional 11 gates should be ready by late 2027.

For now, travelers should also be aware that some of the parking spots in Terminal 1 are closed and the cellphone lot has moved to the parking lot on McCain Road.
