Allegiant Airlines Suspends Service To State College

June 3, 2022

Folks looking for flights in and out of State College are going to have a few less options now, because Allegiant Air has suspended service there.

According to the Centre Daily Times, the airline’s last flight in or out of State College took place on Sunday. A spokeswoman, Sonya Padgett, told the newspaper that “labor and demand constraints affecting the entire airline industry led to ‘the difficult decision to suspend our seasonal service at University Park Airport.’”

Padgett said in the statement that the airline’s passenger list has “largely been students and their families who traveled to and from the area when classes were in session.” However, Padgett said, demand for flight has not returned as students have returned to classes.

Allegiant began serving State College in October of 2019, the Times reported.

Padgett told the newspaper that Allegiant, which also serves Harrisburg, Allentown and Pittsburgh, remains committed to the area.

The Centre Daily Times said Allegiant’s departure leaves State College with three airlines still in operation there. It said Delta offers flights to Detroit, American offers flights to Philadelphia and United goes to Newark and Chicago.
