Berlin — European budget airline EasyJet has reached agreement with Germany's Verdi trade union on salary increases for cockpit and cabin crew, Verdi negotiator Holger Rößler said on Wednesday.
Both staff groups would receive a one-off payment and salary increases of a little under 8% under an agreement that will run to the end of April 2024, he said.
EasyJet confirmed that a deal had been agreed.
"We know that this has been a difficult time for our staff, and we are focusing on close collaboration with Verdi in the interests of our employees, the long-term success of the business and to secure jobs over the long term," the head of EasyJet in Germany, Stephan Erler, said.
According to Verdi, pilots will receive a one-off payment in October next year of between €1,125 and €3,000 ($1,185 and $3,150). The first pay increase will take effect at the same time, amounting to 2.5%.Cockpit crew are to receive a second one-off payment of up to €1,500 in April 2023 and a further pay increase of 2.5%. A third pay increase of 3% will go through in October of that year.
Cabin crew will receive a one-off payment in October this year of up to €4,500, as well as two pay increases of 5% in October and 3.2% in April 2023.Verdi called a warning strike in support of its demands that led to cancellations and delays at Berlin's BER airport a few weeks ago.
