Alaska Airlines Adds 2nd Daily Flight From Cleveland to Seattle, Starting in the Spring
SEATTLE – Alaska Airlines, which two months ago launched service between Cleveland and Seattle, is already making plans to expand the route with a second daily flight between the two cities in 2023.
The second flight will be seasonal, operating June 15 through Sept. 5, the peak months for leisure travel to the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. The new flight was loaded into the schedule this week, with fares starting at about $300 one way.
“Things are still subject to change, but we’re hoping to be able to add more capacity to Cleveland during the height of the summer,” said airline spokesman Ray Lane. “Our one flight this year has been extremely popular.”
The new flight west will depart Cleveland at 7:15 a.m., landing in Seattle at 9:20 a.m. The eastbound flight will depart Seattle at 10:45 p.m., landing in Cleveland at 6:10 a.m.
“It’s a red-eye, which for many is a very efficient way to travel when flying west to east,” said Lane. And the westbound flight will be more convenient for connections to Asia, Alaska and other destinations.
Alaska is the only airline flying to Seattle nonstop from Cleveland. Before the route launched in June, Seattle was the largest market unserved by nonstop service from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
United Airlines previously offered nonstop service to Seattle from Cleveland, but the flight was cut in 2014, when the airline closed its hub at Hopkins. In recent years, Frontier Airlines has offered nonstop service between Cleveland and Seattle, but the route wasn’t year-round and the flights weren’t flown daily.
Airport officials tried for years to entice Alaska Airlines to Cleveland. The airline, which is headquartered in Seattle, is consistently ranked among the top U.S. carriers in customer service surveys.
Lane also said that Alaska was adding second daily flights from Seattle to Columbus and Cincinnati next year. Alaska first launched nonstop service between Seattle and Columbus in 2019 and from Cincinnati in 2021.
