Dec. 9—Aeromar is suspending operations at Laredo International Airport starting Jan. 7, 2023 and will stop offering flights to Mexico City at that point.
The city said in a release that the suspension of operations is due to travelers not utilizing the service enough. Flights to Mexico City from Laredo began on Oct. 5, 2020.
"The City of Laredo and the Laredo International Airport thanks Aeromar representatives for their service to our city and their support," the city said in a release. "The City of Laredo and the Laredo International Airport thanks Aeromar."
Anyone with tickets purchased for flights from Laredo to Mexico City for after Jan. 7 will be contacted by Aeromar for reimbursement. Anyone in the community seeking additional information about ticket issues can call 844-237-6629.
The first Aeromar flight from Laredo to Mexico City occurred on Oct. 5, 2020 and included several local officials such as Mayor Pete Saenz and Rep. Henry Cuellar. The process to establish non-stop flights from Laredo to Mexico's capital took approximately three years which included interruption from the COVID-9 pandemic. It is now set to end following just over two years of operation.
The pandemic also impacted the operation of the flights as they were suspended from Jan. 25, 2021 to March 12, 2021.
