Air Belgium said on Monday it was cancelling all passenger flights from October due to financial troubles. The airline will restructure to focus on cargo flights and aircraft leasing operations.

Brussels — Air Belgium said on Monday it was cancelling all passenger flights from October due to financial troubles.

The airline will restructure to focus on cargo flights and aircraft leasing operations, a spokeswoman said in Brussels on Monday.

The economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine were cited by the company as reasons for the business problems. High fuel prices and inflation were also named.

Air Belgium said it will still operate passenger flights as planned until October 3. Customers who have flights scheduled for after that date are to be refunded the ticket price.

The management plans to move staff from the passenger flight operations to the other business areas, if possible.

Air Belgium says it has 500 employees.

The airline was founded in 2016. Most recently, the company had concentrated its passenger traffic on flights to South Africa and Mauritius.
