Norwegian Air Named ‘Best Budget Bougie Experience’ at Fodor’s Travel Awards

June 25, 2019

Norwegian, the World’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline, has been named ‘Best Budget Bougie Experience’ at the first-ever Fodor’s Travel Awards. Launched by the acclaimed award-winning travel publishing house Fodor’s Travel, award recipients are selected by Fodor’s editorial team of travel experts to recognize and honor standout travel brands in the categories that matter to today’s modern traveler.

“Lounge access, up to 46 inches seat pitch, a deep reclining seat that comes with a built-in footrest—you might forget that you’re flying on a low-cost carrier. You won’t, though, because as you sit back and sip your complimentary welcome drink, all you’ll be able to think about is how affordable flying in Norwegian Air’s Premium cabin is. Even Norwegian’s regular economy is simply a cut above its competitors. You still have to pay extra for food, drink, and checked baggage but you’ll still be getting a much more comfortable experience than can be had on just about any other low-cost carrier,” said Fodor’s judges about Norwegian.

"Most travel awards programs take themselves very seriously. But there are so many fun quirks and nuances to travel, as well as needs and goals that vary from person to person. We designed the Fodor's Travel Awards to be more inclusive, more honest, and way more fun and relevant to everyday travelers and tourists,” said Jeremy Tarr, Editorial Director of Fodor's Travel.

“We are very honored to receive this category-first award for Norwegian. We strive to focus on the wants and needs of the modern traveler. Norwegian not only offers the most affordable premium fares from the United States to Europe, but perks like free gate-to-gate Wi-Fi on transatlantic routes, personal screens in every seat with entertainment and USB chargers, as well as a snack bar for passengers to choose something extra during the flight are just some of the modern luxuries we offer to all of our passengers. We aim to provide low fares with high-quality service and allow the customer to tailor to their travel needs,” said Bjørn Kjos, Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian.

This is Norwegian’s third award this month following the World’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline recognition by Skytrax and named Europe’s Leading Low-Cost Airline 2019 at the World Travel Awards, both for the fifth consecutive year. Overall, Norwegian is one of the world’s most awarded low-cost airlines. Most recent accolades include: Most Fuel-Efficient Airline on Transatlantic Routes by the International Council on Clean Transportation for two consecutive years; Value Airline of the Year by Air Transport World; Favorite Budget Airline by Global Travel Magazine; Best Low Cost Carrier Europe at the Passenger Choice Awards; and Airline Loyalty Program of the Year Europe and Africa at the Freddie Awards in recognition of the airline’s customer loyalty program, Norwegian Reward.

Norwegian is the first low-cost airline to introduce free Wi-Fi on intercontinental flights, introduced earlier this year. An upgraded feature, gate-to-gate Wi-Fi was also launched earlier this month. Passengers are now able to stay connected both on the ground and in the skies with the roll out of free and premium high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity on the carrier’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. More than 50 percent of Norwegian’s 787-9 Dreamliner fleet is expected to offer in-flight connectivity by 2020.

Earlier this year Norwegian became the leading and largest foreign airline to serve the New York City region according to data from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the airline has also twice been ranked most fuel-efficient airline by the International Council on Clean Transportation.
