Volaris Helps the People of the Bahamas in the Wake of Hurricane Dorian

Sept. 23, 2019
Thanks to the support of the airline, 1,500 people affected by Hurricane Dorian in Abaco, Bahamas received help from CADENA.

Volaris along with the “Comité de Ayuda a Desastres y Emergencias Nacionales“ (CADENA), delivered assistance to 1,500 people in Abaco, Bahamas who were affected by Hurricane Dorian, which had winds reaching 300 km/h.

In response to the urgency of the crisis in Abaco, Volaris provided flights to members of CADENA's GO Team, which is an immediate response team (usually arriving within 72 hours of a crisis event) trained to assist in many emergency and natural disaster situations, including rescue in flood situations, within collapsed structures and white waters, rescues of height and in confined spaces, as well as civil protection response and other emergency response.

The airline supported the mission of the CADENA GO Team by providing flights to the Bahamas to four Team members - three rescuers and a psychologist.  Thanks to this, the GO Team from CADENA delivered 418 solar lamps and provided physical and mental assistance to 83 people.

Hurricane Dorian touched the Bahamas in early September and has been the strongest weather phenomenon affecting the archipelago ever recorded. Its impact caused the displacement of at least one million people and destroyed around 13 thousand homes.
