The Lufthansa Group Ramps up Flight Schedule for Summer 2021
Lufthansa Group is poised for a transformational summer 2021 season and ready to serve the ever-increasing, pent-up demand for travel. The company is ramping up flights, re-introducing North American routes and launching a new destination in the United States during the upcoming summer 2021 flight schedule, which begins on March 28.
As worldwide vaccinations increase, quick and reliable tests are utilized and sophisticated hygiene concepts are mandatory at airports and airlines, it is becoming more and more feasible to consider travel. The Lufthansa Group is now ready to bring people together, be it to visit family and friends that have not been seen in over a year, visit business colleagues for long-overdue face-to-face meetings or to simply unwind on a leisure vacation after a year of quarantines. With this notion, the Lufthansa Group is all set with an attractive and varied flight program for a transformational summer 2021 season that is a direct solution to the ever-increasing pent-up demand.
North America is one of the most important markets for the Lufthansa Group and therefore certain key transatlantic routes are being reinstated in the summer 2021 schedule. Swiss will resume service on the Miami – Zurich route beginning March 28, with up to five weekly frequencies. Up to seven weekly services will also be offered between Boston – Zurich from May 1 onwards, and up to five weekly services will be offered from Los Angeles – Zurich from May 2. In May, Austrian Airlines will once again be flying three times a week to New York’s JFK and Montreal, both to and from Vienna.
More positive updates include a new route being introduced to the United States. In June, Eurowings Discover, the Lufthansa Group’s new leisure travel-focused airline, will launch a direct route from Anchorage, Alaska to Frankfurt, Germany. The Anchorage flight will be operated three times a week.
This summer, in Europe, at Lufthansa Group’s hubs (Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich), leisure destinations will be the focus, with the Group offering the most extensive range of vacation destinations in years, thus further demonstrating the company’s knowledge of the leisure travel market. Over the course of the summer, Lufthansa plans to add around 20 new vacation destinations to its flight program from Frankfurt and 13 new holiday destinations from Munich. Special focus: the Caribbean, the Canary Islands and Greece.
"Our leisure travel program for summer 2021 is stronger than ever. We expect many countries to relax travel restrictions towards the summer as more and more people have been vaccinated. We know that demand will increase sharply as soon as travel restrictions are removed - and we are well equipped to meet this with our excellent range of products and offers. There is a great yearning for travel and we believe that the summer months will reflect this," said Harry Hohmeister, member of the Executive Board and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
Lufthansa is offering numerous new long-haul tourist destinations from Frankfurt, some in cooperation with Eurowings Discover. For the first time from Frankfurt, there will be two weekly flights to Mombasa (Kenya) with onward flights to the dream island of Zanzibar (Tanzania). Furthermore, the enchanting vacation destinations, Mauritius and Malé in the Maldives, will not only be offered in winter, but will also be on the summer flight schedule, twice a week from 2021.
In addition to the classic city and vacation destinations, the focus in Europe will be on Greece and the Canary Islands. From Frankfurt and Munich, it will be even easier to reach your choice of Greek or Spanish holiday islands. Other attractive destinations in the flight program from Frankfurt are Paphos (Cyprus), Rijeka (Croatia), Lamezia Terme (Italy), Djerba (Tunisia), Ponta Delgada (Azores/Portugal) and Varna (Bulgaria). From Munich, new flights will be offered to Jerez (Spain) and to the Greek islands of Chania, Mykonos, Kos, Kavalla, Zakynthos and Preveza. Another new summer destination is Hurghada in Egypt.
For those travelers thinking about their next winter vacation far away from ice and snow, they can already begin planning their trip with Lufthansa. In cooperation with Eurowings Discover, the airline is further expanding its long-haul tourist services to Frankfurt and beyond for the winter of 2021/22.
The Lufthansa Group recommends to book travel as soon as possible since the 2021 summer flights purchased by May 31, can be rebooked as often as desired, free-of-charge, until that date. After May 31, one more rebooking, free-of-charge, is possible. Additional costs may arise if, for example, the original booking class is no longer available when rebooking for a different date or to a different destination.
