DHL Express Launches Direct Flight to Dominican Republic from the U.S.
DHL Express, an international express service provider, expanded its air network by operating a new, dedicated cargo flight between the United States and the Dominican Republic market, benefiting customers shipping to and from the country and the rest of the world.
“This network flight upgrade is a huge milestone for our operation, and underscores our commitment to meeting the ever changing customer needs in the Dominican Republic and throughout the Caribbean countries,” said Richard Saavedra, CEO, DHL Express Caribbean.
The new route to the Dominican Republic, which started on Nov. 28, is operated by a Boeing 737-800, a next generation, fuel efficient aircraft that offers a 21-ton payload capacity. The flight operates 5-times per week between Américas International Airport (SDQ) and the DHL Hub at the Miami International Airport, where shipments are routed on flights that connect to the DHL Express network in all regions of the world. With this upgrade, DHL Express will be able to offer continued capacity growth and service reliability to its customers shipping to and from the Dominican Republic, as well as expand next day services to various points within the Americas, including the U.S.
The new connection to the Dominican Republic is part of DHL Express’ overall expansion plan in the Americas, which includes more than USD $360 million in investments between 2020 and 2022. The company continues to expand its air cargo capacity to cater to rising shipment demand resulting in particular from the e-commerce sector.
