Killeen Opens New Skylark Field Terminal, Adds Avfuel Partnership
The City of Killeen’s Aviation Department has opened its new fixed-base operator facility at Skylark Field Airport (KILE), marking a major upgrade in services and amenities for general aviation users in Central Texas. The Skylark Field Terminal, which opened October 10, provides expanded space, modern conveniences, and operational enhancements for pilots, passengers, and the region’s aviation community.
“This opening marks a new chapter of exceptional service and comfort at Skylark Field Airport, and we look forward to sharing it with everyone who walks through our doors,” said Mike Wilson, executive director of aviation for the City of Killeen.
The new 3,000-square-foot terminal was constructed from the ground up and features a bright reception area, updated pilot and passenger lounges, a meeting room, and a modern kitchen with complimentary refreshments. The facility was designed with both comfort and functionality in mind, supporting the airport’s broader service and operational goals.
Sustainability was a key consideration in the terminal’s development. The building includes solar panels and charging stations to support energy reduction efforts. The airport also maintains a longstanding partnership with Central Texas College, with the new terminal expanding opportunities for students completing Flight Instructor Certifications.
Skylark Field Airport features a 5,495-foot runway, 24-hour self-service Jet A and 100LL fuel, line service support, and 48 hangars that can accommodate up to 64 based aircraft, including single-engine aircraft through King Air 250 models.
The terminal’s opening also introduces a new fuel partnership with Avfuel. As an Avfuel-branded location, Skylark Field offers AVTRIP rewards, Avfuel Contract Fuel pricing, and transaction consolidation through the Avfuel Pro Card. The City of Killeen also operates Killeen Regional Airport (GRK), which participates in the same Avfuel programs.
