Sensible Communication Software

Feb. 20, 2020
Software is outlining communication standards in airports.

Technology evolves in a fast-paced environment that changes day-to-day especially in aviation. Airports are struggling to keep critical functions operating without interruption and meet the changing demands of digital passengers. The key to both is visibility.

FNT Software develops solutions for integrated management of IT, data centers and telecommunication infrastructures which gives companies the required visibility into network assets and enables the provisioning of high-value IT and telecommunications services.

Benefits achieved using the FNT Command Platform are stable IT operations, increased efficiency and improved service quality.

Sean Graham, general manager of North America, FNT Software, said, “The FNT Command Platform is a modular, standardized software product for infrastructure management.”

The platform can be used at an airport, data center, a telecommunication environment or classic enterprise IT, or combination of all, because of the modular structure.

“Based on the coherent data model and a single database, the FNT Command Platform performs tasks involved in managing and planning IT, telecommunications and network infrastructures,” Graham said.

“You will have an optimized use of infrastructure capacities and reduction of CAPEX, reduced OPEX, plus optimized costs and process times, comprehensive documentation with complete transparency and reduction of manual effort through automation and workflows,” Graham said.

The following solutions are available, and best adaptable, for airports: Enterprise Connectivity Management both-internal and external network, Application Infrastructure Management, Catalog Management and Workplace Infrastructure Management.

The FNT Command  Platform offers Cable Management with comprehensive functionality, including tray management, intelligent routing mechanisms, junction box and splice planning, and capacity planning up to the glass fiber layer, for supporting the entire process from planning and provisioning through to documentation of cable and network infrastructure, Graham noted.

Data Center Infrastructure Management manages the building infrastructure (power, cooling, floorspace, etc.) and IT infrastructure (network, servers, storage, etc.) down to the processes and services (software, applications, services). The FNT Command Platform enables a comprehensive integrated view of your valuable data center resources. IT Infrastructure Management forms the basis for comprehensive network, server, workstation and software management, providing a 360-degree view from both the technological and business standpoint, Graham said.

There are a few factors to consider when selecting the FNT Command. First, the capability to integrate with legacy or third-party software (API availability and standard interfaces) and second, easy migration of data from existing systems to the FNT Command Platform.

Graham also said there is a possibility to extend the data model to store additional information as well as a web-based user interface on state-of-the-art technology (HTML 5).

“The software itself can be installed on a physical server or virtual machine”, Graham said.

Proper maintenance for these conditions is to check on the Hard disk space, CPU performance sufficient RAM and Internet connectivity. The overall health of the server is important to avoid any outage.

Updates for the software are continually being developed to achieve customer needs and satisfaction. In the second quarter of 2020 FNT will release version 13.

Graham said the FNT Command Platform contains a standard library of more than 60,000 configurable devices.

“New ones are always being added, both as part of a standard process and by customer request,” Graham said. “That includes passive components as well as active components from a switch to a router or 5G antennas.”

Information from other systems can easily be integrated, analytical evolutions can be performed, IT processes and workflows can be optimized, and new digital services can be provided.

The FNT Command Platform is offered as standardized SaaS (software as a service) solutions out of the cloud, which are preconfigured specifically for the most common use cases,” Graham said.

Graham noted FNT Software was created to support facility management based on CAD technology.

“It wasn’t long before it became clear that firms were desperately looking for a solution to support documentation of cabling and active components of their IT and telecommunication infrastructure,” Graham said. “It was this realization that led to the birth of the FNT Command Platform.”

The FNT Command Platform has been manufactured for 25 years using a standardized modular system of various FNT tools and methods.

Graham said, “like our customers, we take an integrated approach to all resources from cabling through to service provision, while showing all necessary dependencies for better decision-making during operations, fault elimination and planning. The software is preconfigured for specific application scenarios and can be used as an out-of-the-box system.”
