Boingo’s Airport Partners Speed to the Top in New Airport Wi-Fi Ranking
Boingo Wireless small cells and Wi-Fi provider that serves carriers, consumers, property owners and advertisers worldwide, has topped the list in Ookla’s latest “Fastest Airport Wi-Fi” report. Boingo’s airport partners made up half of the top 40 U.S. airports with the fastest Wi-Fi, with four ranking in the top five. This includes Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, which ranked No. 1 on Ookla’s list, Chicago Midway International Airport, Nashville International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
“Fast Wi-Fi is essential to the travel experience and Boingo is there to meet this demand with fast, seamless connectivity,” said Dawn Callahan, chief marketing officer, Boingo. “Our prominence in Ookla’s ranking is a testament to Boingo’s commitment to helping world-class airports improve the passenger journey.”
Ookla’s rankings were based on its Speedtest Intelligence data that analyzed large airports during Q1-Q2. Mean download and upload speeds over an airport’s Wi-Fi SSID were examined to determine winners. Boingo-branded networks, as well as the company’s white label and Passpoint Secure networks were recognized. Passpoint is a Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) technology that automatically connects travelers to Wi-Fi with no log-in or passwords required, much like the seamless and secure Wi-Fi experience at the home or office. Passpoint facilitates carrier offloading to Wi-Fi, alleviating pressure on cellular networks and helping carriers accommodate rising mobile data traffic.
