CSMIA Launches a New and Unique QR-Code Based Contactless Check-In Experience
Mumbai, September 08, 2020: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is India’s first airport to introduce a QR-code based technology to provide passengers with a contactless check-in experience at the airport. The airport has added a touchless feature to its self-check-in kiosks whereby passengers can use their own phone to scan the QR code in order to remotely self-check in, thus minimizing surface contact in the course of their journey. In the wake of the pandemic, this innovative technology is yet another initiative taken by CSMIA to enhance the safety of its passengers at the airport.
CSMIA has deployed SITA’s touchless technology solution in full compliance with India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation’s (MoCA) passenger processing guidelines. The technology is a vital step in reducing passenger contact with kiosk surfaces and allows them to use their mobile phones to remotely operate check-in and self-bag drop kiosks to print their boarding passes and bag tags. Passengers need to scan the QR code shown on the kiosks to access a remote keyboard and mouse on their mobile device, without touching the kiosks.
Commenting on the new contactless technology, Rajeev Jain, CEO, MIAL said, “With the focus on passenger convenience, the new contactless technology has been developed in response to the rapidly changing passenger requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working on enhancing passenger experience through the adoption of newer technologies that can be easily adapted by all. We want to reassure our patrons of their safety at the airport and are willing to go the extra mile to alleviate any fear of travel during these challenging times.”
Maneesh Jaikrishna, SITA vice president for the Indian Subcontinent, Dubai, Eastern and Southern Africa, said, “In the aftermath of COVID-19, we are focused in delivering technology solutions that help our customers quickly deliver a safe and smooth passenger journey. We are pleased to have supported Mumbai Airport on this, and we’re subsequently rolling this solution to other airports in India too.”
CSMIA has always set a benchmark in delivering best-in-class services at the airport. It is the airports vision to offer a memorable passenger experience by providing a high standard of comfort and convenience for its passengers. Even before the pandemic, CSMIA had adopted several initiatives to enhance self-reliance of the passengers and promote a seamless airport journey through the introduction of innovative technology like Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks for passengers to check-in and generate a baggage tag themselves, Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) counters and e-gates that allow passengers to scan their boarding pass to proceed to security check. SITA is a longstanding partner of CSMIA, deploying a range of solutions to enhance passenger experience and operational excellence at the airport.
CSMIA has been at the forefront in developing infrastructure at the airport by enhancing capacity and creating robust process management. The airport continually endeavors to provide advanced technology that helps in allowing passengers to transit efficiently and with ease. Furthermore, with its recent technology, the airport keeps its commitment towards curbing the spread of the virus and making efforts in rendering travel to and from Mumbai as the most desirable and elevating experience.
