2019 Airport Business Top 40 Under 40: Gene Frazier, MPA, C.M., CFM
The fast-moving and ever-changing environment of an airport is just the atmosphere that Gene Frazier, superintendent-airport facilities management at Tallahassee International Airport (TLH), said he thrives on.
“What I enjoy the most is the randomness. Every day you have to be prepared for a wide range of events that could happen from natural disasters to customer complaints and, obviously, the most devastating which is a downed aircraft. You have to be prepared for so much working at the airport and that randomness is what I enjoy – there’s nothing mundane.”
In his role at TLH, Frazier leads a division of more than 20 employees, along with an annual operating budget of more than $3 million dollars. Frazier has been able to identify needed improvements in facility systems and processes to ensure the airport’s preventative maintenance program is functioning at an optimal level. He has also been tasked with managing all facility improvement projects under $200,000.
One thing that Frazier credits his success to is his commitment to continually bettering his education.
“After graduating from grad school, I didn’t stop there. On a nearly yearly basis I make it a goal to seek out professional development opportunities to improve upon my knowledge base, and that’s been my career development philosophy every year,” he said.
