More than $13 million will be dedicated to a pair of airports in the Acadiana region of Louisiana.
According to a report by KATC news, Congressman Charles Boustany announced the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration awarded $13,026,644 in federal funding to improved runway safety at the Lafayette Regional Airport.
"Lafayette Regional Airport is a critical center for commercial travel and industrial transportation in South Louisiana," he said. "This funding will help to increase safety and ensure continued economic growth in the region."
It also was announced $90,000 was awarded to Acadiana Regional Airport for funding for the widening of the taxiway, which will assist in accommodating larger aircraft in compliance with FAA design standards.
Jason Devillier, Airport Director for the Iberia Parish Airport Authority, said: "With this grant, planning is now underway that will assure Acadiana Regional Airport as the premier airport for heavy, wide body aircraft in the Gulf region. The direct involvement and personal attention of Congressman Boustany and his first-class staff has put this all in motion; we thank him for his support and for sharing our vision."
