Joyous Community Piano Unveiling at Flint Bishop Airport
The Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA) in collaboration with Flint Bishop Airport announce the reveal of the third community piano at the Flint Bishop Airport.
With two pianos currently being enjoyed at the Flint Farmers Market and Genesee Valley Mall, FSPA is excited to continue giving back to the community through the power of music. While enjoying a day of shopping— and now when arriving or departing Flint!— anyone is welcome to strike a chord, play a melody, and tickle the ivories.
“It’s been so rewarding to see the popularity of the community pianos at Genesee Valley Mall and the Flint Farmers’ Market. And now, with the piano at Bishop Airport, passengers and their families, and the airport staff, too will enjoy the live music” says Davin Pierson Torre, Director of the Flint School of Performing Arts.
To begin this artistic journey, a well-loved piano was given new life with a whimsical and colorful makeover courtesy of local Flint artist Isiah Lattimore. “The possibility of flight has always captivated human imagination,” says Lattimore. “The combination of innovation, creativity, and fantasy are as prevalent in aviation as they are in music or painting. I drew inspiration from these concepts while working on this project.”
For the FSPA, the piano project is the latest in a series of efforts to get people involved in the arts outside the confines of the classroom or home.
“I have traveled through dozens of airports and I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to hear someone playing the piano. I am thrilled we will now be able to share this form of live music with our passengers at Flint Bishop,” says Craig Williams, Bishop's Airport Director. “The positive impact that something as simple as a piano can have on the community is truly transformative."
And a final word from FSPA Director Davin Torre sums it all up: “Will there be a fourth piano? As Flint continues its renaissance, more art of all forms is key. Where will the fourth piano be located? Stay tuned!”
