Anchorage International Airport Named Best Air Cargo Airport in North America
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) was named the 2019 Best Air Cargo Airport for North America at the Asian Freight, Logistics & Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards in Hong Kong. The awards are voted on by companies in the freight, logistics, and supply chain industry throughout Asia.
“This award clearly demonstrates to business leaders across North America and around the world that the State of Alaska is open for business,” said Governor Michael J. Dunleavy. “Our geographic location, business friendly environment and excellent airport facilities are here to serve a wide range of industries looking for new growth opportunities.”
“We are very excited to win this prestigious award because it is voted on by our customers,” said Jim Szczesniak, ANC Airport Manager. “We have placed an emphasis on helping our customers succeed at ANC, and this award shows our efforts are paying off.”
ANC is the world’s fifth busiest air cargo airport and handles just under 3 million metric tonnes of air cargo annually. Asia to North America is the world’s largest air cargo trade lane and 79 percent of all Asia to North America freighter aircraft take advantage of ANC’s strategic location, excellent service, and special air cargo transfer rights to run more efficient air cargo operations.
“This award is a reflection of the efforts made by the entire ANC team,” said Szczesniak. “Airport Operations, and Field Maintenance staff do a tremendous job keeping the airport operating efficiently during winter weather events, and throughout the construction seasons. Following the 7.1 magnitude earthquake on Nov. 30, 2018, Airport Operations had the runways inspected, and open for the first cargo plane to land in 15 minutes. Airlines know ANC is reliable. We must also thank our finance staff. Effective July 1, 2019, we will have reduced our landing fees by 23% since June 30, 2018. Customers are always happy when you can add to their bottom line.”
The airport recognizes the important role of cargo community service providers, and federal partners in receiving this award. These partners are vital to the world class service that air cargo carriers experience at ANC. Our partners include Pegasus Aviation Services, Swissport International, FEAM Aero, the Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Controllers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Transportation Security Administration.
